Giving Thanks
A retired couple shares what life has been like during COVID and a medical scare.
Take a lookGiving Thanks in a Time of Struggle
This was a very sweet video to work on. Pretty quickly after COVID hit, and they were quarantined at home, the wife, Sue, had a stroke. The couple had a very difficult few months, as you can imagine. Before things went south, they were very active in their church, which hadn't been meeting due to the virus. When we recorded this video, things were slowly beginning to open up again, and they were looking forward to Thanksgiving with their family. Sue had recovered from her stroke enough to be able to enjoy the holiday. I wanted to capture how they felt at that point, and compare it to the experiences they had just gone through. Everyone had a rough time during the virus days, but they had a particularly rocky road.
Rather than do a straightforward talking head setup, I decided to try something different. I interviewed Sue, sitting outside in their garden area, while their preacher (and my father) interviewed Larry on a walking trail. I had dad and Larry chase me while I used a gimbal for video, and lapel mics for sound. Then, I had them to a second lap while I captured them from the air with my drone. I wanted to get as close to the golden hour as we could, so we started recording at 7:00 in the morning. It paid off with some of the visuals we got.

Looking Back
This was a good project to work on. It's fun to do big events, or videos that involve trips or what have you, but some of my favorites are ones that showcase the special things close to us that we might not always see.
